Random Weave Basketry Workshop
Spend a day at Penrith Regional Gallery learning the art of random weave basketry with Branching Out Designs. In this workshop you will create your own randomly woven basket or sculpture from foraged vines, branches and leaves. Participants will start by wrangling vines to create a basic framework, before filling or extending the frame into a basket or sculpture. There will also be a guided wander around the beautiful gallery gardens to talk about material collection and preparation.
This program is designed for adult participants only. All materials are supplied.
The workshop includes a break for lunch. You can purchase food at Cafe at Lewers or bring your own lunch and enjoy a picnic in the garden.
ABOUT BRANCHING OUT DESIGNS
Branching Out Designs is a collaboration of sisters Jillian Culey and Carolyn Dance. For more than 10 years we have been making and teaching basketry. We work from bush to basket and love the entire process of gathering and foraging natural fibres to the creative process of designing and weaving. We work with a range materials and use many different weaving techniques to wrangle the fibres into something creative, beautiful and functional.
