A family fun day out in Penrith

There’s so many ways to have fun with your family in Penrith, check out our ideas for your next family day out.

Enjoy the great outdoorsFamily fun image

Summer is the best time of year to be outdoors but when the weather is hot there’s nothing like being near water to cool you down. A lunch cruise on the majestic Nepean Belle Paddlewheeler is a great way to experience the stunning Blue Mountains National Park and all the action on the Nepean River. Weekend cruises go from 12pm-2.30pm and prices start at $65 for adults, $39 for 13-16yrs, $25 for children 3-12yrs and 0-2yr olds free!

If you’d prefer to be in the water, then head to Cables Wake Park for a family fun time in the inflatable Aqua Park. This super-fun playground on the water is suitable for anyone aged over six years old. There’s inflatable slides, runways, jumping pillows and obstacles all connected together and floating close to the shoreline. A 50 minute session is $20, or you can purchase a day pass for $45 per person.

Have an adventure together

Get your adrenaline pumping with a few laps around the track at Luddenham Raceway. Kids aged between 8-14yrs can enjoy 2 x 7 minute sessions on the Rookie Circuit for just $50. While adults aged 15yrs and over can tackle the Pro Circuit with 2x10 minute sessions for $60. After you’re finished, you can sit back with some food or drinks from the cafe and enjoy all the action on the tracks.

Explore the danger and drama of fire and firefighting at the Museum of Fire. There’s an impressive collection of fire-fighting vehicles and memorabilia so kids (and parents!) can learn a thing or two about the history of fighting fires in Australia. Aspiring junior firefighters can take part in a day of adventure and exploration with fire safety activities, computer games, puzzles and dress ups. Entry is just $6 for kids and $28 for a family of four.

Fun for everyone

If an indoor mini-golf course with moving props and Hollywood-style effects sounds like something your kids would enjoy, then it's time to head to Unreal Mini Golf. Here you'll play your way through six-themed courses and get up close to an elephant, come face to face with pirates and even head through a haunted cemetery. Prices $15 for adults and $10 for children (aged over 3yrs) and a family pass is just $40.

Get your roller skates or rollerblades on and have fun with the family on the indoor roller rink at Penrith Skatel. Book in for two or three hour sessions for as little as $8 per person and if you need to hire some skates, these are available to hire for just $3 per person. There's also fun roller sports you can try during the week including figure skating, speed skating, in-line hockey, skate-fit and roller derby!

Be entertained

If you love Mary Poppins the movie, then you’ll love Mary Poppins on Ice at Penrith Ice Palace. Don’t miss this opportunity to see this family classic brought to life by the Sydney Ice Theatre Company. There’s two performances on Saturday 8 December at 3pm, and Sunday 9 December at 3pm. Tickets are $15 per person, or $50 for a family of four. Book ahead or buy at the door!

If you’re after a highly entertaining show the whole family with love, then you need to get yourself some tickets to see The 91-Storey Treehouse at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre. This live show is a fantastical trip through Andy and Terry’s wild, weird and wonderful treehouse which is full of crazy and colourful characters. Performances run at various times across Wednesday 5 December and Thursday 6 December. Tickets start at $36 per person. Bookings essential.
